How to Make a Diaper Cake This gift will receive lots of compliments from the guests attending a baby shower. It is simple to put together using any brand of diapers, size 1-2 (up to 15 lbs.) For a three tier cake, you will need approximately 60 diapers. You will want to buy rubber bands, ribbons, bows, and a toy or bear for the top of the cake. Go to giftwrapgifts.com to choose your ribbons and bows for this project.
First step, cut out a cardboard circle at least 10" or more. Cover the circle with colorful wrapping paper or with a piece of scrap material. Purchase an eight oz. baby bottle to serve as the center support.
Take 1 diaper and wrap around the bottle and secure with a rubber band. Place the bottle in the center of the cardboard circle. Next, start your circle of diapers by standing them up around the bottle and secure with a piece of ribbon. Make another row on the outside of the first row of diapers. You can secure this row with a 2" wide ribbon that coordinates with your paper circle. For the second tier, starting next to the baby bottle, on top of the first tier, stand more diapers up and secure with another piece of ribbon. Again, secure the outer layer with the 2" wide ribbon. Continue on the same with the third layer. Each layer will be smaller than the first. Top your cake off with a cute baby bear with a bow make from the same ribbon. Another idea is to hide small baby toys or other baby items inside of a diaper on each layer. When the new mom opens the diaper to use on her new baby, SURPRISE, another gift.
You can have fun making this cake by using your imagination to create a useful gift and it can also be used for a center piece.
